With a new Itch Dot Io Indie double bill format we take a look at LIMITO when it comes to something... completely different
What if you could only do 20 things before you died? A difficult question isn't it.
Now what if you could save yourself in those 20 actions? What would you do then?
LIMITO plays upon its novel limitation of 20 inputs and builds around it; creating a stunningly difficult and satisfying platformer that I ended up breaking...
The game was short and addicting which made for a fun experience The music complimented the game well and the colours were very pleasing especially with how they often changed One of my favourite things is just how fast and tight the gameplay is, 20 moves per level can be tight especially if you panic and stop moving too often but with how short the levels are and how fast you respawn it never takes long for you to get back to where you died and try again allowing you to easily learn from your mistakes Although sometimes I felt hitboxes were a bit tight or weird and with that said some stages were a bit of a pain such as Stage 11 having you run under 3 boxes at the very end which is very tight to time and the two maze like stages just giving you little to no clues without throwing yourself into the unknown (And most likely death) However the final level was a great test of skill reusing previous level gimmicks and concluded a very fun game overall. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Graphics: The game has a two colour artstyle similar of old 80s PC games. The playable robot however is about 5 colours and is clashing with the games artstyle. Everytime you die, the background change colour, however the sprites still stay either red or white. It would be cool is all graphics shared the same colour as the background, alternatively all graphics but the background is white.
Music: The game has a well made chiptune soundtrack, I wish there was more variation and maybe use a calming song so not all tracks are intense.
Difficulty: The game requires alot of quick reflexes and well timed jumps and is over all a pretty difficult game. Some stages are guaranteed to make you die, such as the maze stage where there are no hints where to go.
I give this game a 4/5 The game reminds me alot of the indie game VVVVVV, but the 20 input gimmick makes it very original.
Great game overall, with a nice implementation of different platformers tropes.
If anything I just have a few problems/nitpicks:
Hitboxes can feel weird sometimes with the spikes and falling blocks, getting me killed though i'm far away.
Some levels should get a little playtest, especially the end on Level 11 fell way too difficult with the row of falling boxes .
I see that you draw a lot of inspiration from VVVVVV to create the world of the game, but the robot seems more detailed; are you going to keep everything simplistic or do you want to change the artwork to fit in line with the robot.
Some kind of intro level would be fine, but that is just my opinion.
the only thing i hated that hitboxes bigger than their look and levels with "where i need to jump to get to exit" without dying 3-4 times, music was nice.
A very fun game with a nice aesthetic ! I enjoyed the levels and some of the designs from VVVVVV were a great addition. The idea of limiting the inputs to 20 is something i hadn't really seen before, so it's pretty cool. The music along with the SFX is really well put together. I had plenty of deaths, but learning and understaind better how to play this game made me want to play it again !

I broke the death counter. It only goes up to 99.
Death/10 Would totally play again.

I can tell a lot of this game is based on aspects of other platformers, which is great!
As many has said, it has the same feel to VVVVVV but remains unique in its own way.
Fast respawn, simple coloring of hazards, and intuitive controls make the game easy to control and play.
The only downsides were the hitboxes, lack of a menu(?) to adjust volume, and controls when starting the game
Overall, a nice game concept with good aesthetics. A great game that I would share.
I really enjoyed playing this game. The art is simple, but very effective. Great choice of music as well.
It's a pretty unique idea with limited amount of inputs, I commend the creativity on that aspect.
I am also fond of the VVVVVV aesthetic of the game.
One issue I had with this game is hitboxes. They are bigger than I thought. The animated spikes make it even worse for the hitbox issue.
fun game with vvvvv elements and aesthetic.

Challenging but I had a good time overall, and the input-limiting mechanics works. :) 70 deaths, I think it was a good run.
It's alright, here's my feedback:
